Amana CS
Report October 2010

God is GOOD!

This year has seen continuing growth in numbers, our first
International students, the celebration of the first birthday of the Amana
Christian Early Learning Centre and every
need provided!

We are planning towards the celebration of the School's
tenth birthday early next year .

During the holidays we hosted a combined Otago NZACS
Teachers Day at the Light and Hope Conference Centre. It was a shame that
no-one was able to attend from Queenstown but we keep in touch and our Senior
student has spent two days there this week having fellowship with their Senior
students.

It was a special privilege to represent Amana at the opening
of the new premises at Timaru Christian School. I don't know if MMM have
forgiven me for recommending them to Shaun or not (just kidding!)

Our Term is shaping up to be a very busy one with Sports
days, a camp, helping co-ordinate the Good ol' Fashioned Sports Day at Millers
Flat, Central Otago where all the Christian Schools oin Otago come together for
a day of fun, singing in the World Vision Concert, visiting Retirement Villages
in Mosgiel to sing Christmas Carols and of course, completing our learning
programme for the year.

We have wonderful staff in both the school and the ELC.

God bless everyone as tyou move towards the end of the year
and the special Advent season - AND
HOLIDAYS!

Hi Everyone!
I am sorry I can not make the meeting this time.
We thank the Lord for a fantastic term 4 week 1 here at LCS...we had a great sports day at the Caledonian Ground and our school production of Peter Pan was a huge success. We feel very blessed as a community. I feel very blessed to work with such great teachers and friends of the school who contributed so much.
We give thanks to God for:
  • a strong committed Christian community
  • a full roll
  • each one of our students
We pray for:
  • our school to glorify God in all areas
  • continued growth and development of our school
  • wisdom for our BoT and DCSA as they make decisions as we grow
We are looking forward to a fast-paced full term ahead.
Blessings

Term 3 was a mainly settled affair until the 4th September. We thank God for his protection and provision during the events since that tumultuous day.

The school continues to thrive in terms of focused learning by students, staff dedication, and great governance by both Board and Proprietors. We have advertised some positions for secondary and have had a wide range of interest. Courses for next year are exciting with commerce now at NCEA level for the first time. Steady enrolments – but still working hard on attracting families of new entrants.
The school is very near completion of full documentation relating to our own RNLS Curriculum. Curriculum Committees have worked hard over the last two years in deeply thinking through the issues, trialling units and processes, further developing effective pedagogical approaches, and preparing schematic plans. I would like to thank the heads of curriculum for their invaluable leadership in this significant undertaking. The primary area have now finalised the reporting formats for National Standards and have completed stage one of three in the development of comprehensive teaching-learning progressions. 52 boxes and $600 were forwarded by the students of the primary school to Operation Christmas Child Appeal – this is an outstanding accomplishment in humanitarian action. Much has been happening property-wise including:
= Some Secondary foyers repainted and new flooring
= The last of the data projectors installed
= Two new hard courts completed along with two proper cricket nets
= New athletics field setting and markings including our 400m track
= A comprehensive fitness trail is being started as soon as the property manager finds time
= A new veranda on Davidson Block
= Proprietors have approved a long term landscaping plan

This has been a very amazing year, with exciting changes anticipated. At last we have been accepted for integration after a long 4 and a half year process. Many thanks to Andy van Ameyde, Richard Van der Pyl, Mark Larson, Vaughn Darby, Alan Harrison, Steve Frost and thanks to all the Christian schools around New Zealand which have supported us financially, with support and encouragement in many areas throughout these struggling years. We are now in the process of planning the new school's refurbishment and structures, and of course appointing the staff for 2011.
We have a current roll of 28 and are looking forward to how God is going to multiply the numbers in the future.
We are very blessed to have a wonderful, pioneering Board, an amazing group of parents and children at the school, and a dedicated staff.
This year will see us close as Southern Lakes Christian School..we are going out with a bang...!
Next year will see a brand new school, KingsView open..with a bang..!
Praise God for His faithfulness, help and protection through the foundational years. All glory to Him, for from Him and to Him and through Him are all things! May we grow from strength to strenght with God as our central focus.

It is simply amazing that this year is all but gone.,,
The highlight for us in term three was the official opening of the new school. Thank you to all who were able to come and celebrate with us. We are still very humbled and thankful for the new property we have and look forward to the future.
As with everyone we are looking at another very nusy term. We await the outcome for the change of class and maximum roll increase but have been told that it is likely to be soon...early November??
Over the coming weeks we also have senior camp at Hanmer Springs, Marae visit and ERO coming to look around.
We are happy to see the tailend of the National Standards and Curriculum documents coming together for the school very shortly!
Tomorrow we sit as a staff and polish our delivery of sexuality programme...
Please continue to pray for our applications before the MoE.
Wish I could make it on Thursday but our local Ministers' Association is meeting at school.
Blessings,
Shaun
